Make your voice heard! House of Representatives voting TODAY on Child Protections Improvements Act

Dear Chronicle readers,

This week the U.S. House of Representatives will finally take action and vote on H.R. 695, the Child Protection Improvements Act (CPIA). We need as many Representatives as possible to vote “yes” on CPIA, so that we show strong support for this commonsense bipartisan bill that keeps kids safe. If CPIA passes in the House we are one step closer to the Senate taking action, and even closer to signing it into law and finally providing youth-serving programs throughout the nation the tools they need to screen potential volunteers and staff.

CPIA provides universal access to national FBI fingerprint background checks for youth-serving and other organizations serving vulnerable populations (children, individuals with disabilities, and the elderly).  FBI fingerprint background checks are a critical part of a comprehensive background screening process, but thousands of organizations don’t have access or cannot afford them. Will you take a minute of your day and ask your Representative to vote yes?

We know the work each of you has done to keep kids safe, now let’s tell Congress it’s their turn to protect young people.
