EVERY young person implies an inclusive landscape – but too often, youth with disabilities are not included or considered when we design our youth mentoring programs. How can programs engage and be more responsive to youth with disabilities and what programmatic elements are needed? Join us as we discuss best practice elements and research findings in designing and implementing mentoring programs for youth with disabilities. Recording of Panel on Expanding Social Capital for Foster Youth

On Wednesday, June 20, 2018, MENTOR and FosterClub hosted a Congressional briefing in Washington, D.C. on “Mentoring Matters: Expanding Social Capital for Foster Youth.” The briefing discussed how child welfare systems, mentoring programs, school administrators, researchers, policymakers, and advocates are collaborating to expand social capital for foster youth by emphasizing the importance of relationships. Training Supervisors to Manage with a Mentoring Mindset

Last month, MENTOR partnered with Macquarie Group and Starbucks to train managers of youth in the workplace to manage with a mentoring mindset. The training with Macquarie engaged intern supervisors, and the training with Starbucks engaged store managers and district leadership in Atlanta as part of our National Mentoring Project funded by the Schultz Family Foundation.

BP Employees Trained as STEM-focused Mentors

To date, MENTOR has trained over 70 BP employees serving as STEM-focused mentors at local schools and community-based organizations in Anchorage and Chicago. The training focuses on helping employee volunteers build stronger connections with youth, nurture a growth mindset and practice cultural humility. Additional trainings are being planned for Chicago and Houston.
