Mentoring can support immigrant youth as they navigate the challenges of a new culture. Join December’s webinar to learn what mentoring programs can do to effectively serve immigrant youth and their families. Panelist include Dr. Ashmeet Oberoi, National Mentoring Resource Center Research Board member and Clinical Assistant Professor of University of Miami, and Susan Nomi, Director of Programs for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Peel in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. Dr. Oberoi will summarize current research related to effective mentoring for first generation immigrant students that includes volunteer mentors and school relationships with teachers and peers. As a program lead for the “Conversation Club,” Ms. Nomi will share learnings and engaging strategies from their group mentoring program that is creating a safe and culturally supportive space for newcomer youth.
